Fashion Design Through Basic Sewing, taught by the Bridges Academy Fashion Design Teacher, introduces students to the foundational skills and techniques used to design and construct clothing. Students learn to operate domestic single-needle sewing machines and explore how different stitches and machine functions support garment structure and design. Through hands-on projects, students build a portfolio of sewn samples and apply their skills to basic garment construction. The class includes a field trip to the DTLA Fashion District, offering real-world exposure to the fashion industry. Emphasis is placed on craftsmanship, problem-solving, and creative expression. A portable sewing machine is required for this course.
