Enrichment

Bridges supports various co-curricular and extracurricular programs and activities aimed at providing our students with enrichment opportunities and avenues to pursue their interests. Some of these programs are listed below.

Athletics

Bridges Athletics gives students opportunities to develop their strengths through competition, teamwork, skill-building, and personal growth. Bridges offers Cross Country in the fall, Basketball in the winter, and Track in the spring, with students participating in structured practices and competitive meets and games throughout each season.

Our athletics program emphasizes growth from each student’s individual starting point. Coaches support students in building physical skills, endurance, confidence, teamwork, perseverance, and healthy habits while experiencing the challenge and belonging that come from being part of a team. Bridges participates in interscholastic competition through the California Interscholastic Federation.

Performing Arts

Bridges Performing Arts provides gifted and 2e students with a rigorous, creative space to develop their individual voices through storytelling and shared experience. Storytelling invites students to explore diverse cultural experience and build empathy and understanding across communities. Through performance, collaboration and production, students develop confidence, resilience and artistic discipline while drawing upon their individual strengths and talents.

Music

The Bridges music program is designed around the talents, interests, experience, and musical goals of our students. Faculty work with students through interviews, auditions, and collaborative placement to create bands and musical groupings that reflect the strengths and instrumentation of each year’s community.

Students have opportunities to grow as individual musicians and ensemble members while exploring different styles, developing performance skills, and collaborating with peers and experienced faculty. The program works toward live performance opportunities throughout the year, including the beloved Bridges Coffeehouse and other community showcases, giving students meaningful ways to share their creativity and developing musicianship.

Musical Theater

The Bridges Theatre Department produces a musical each academic year, with recent examples including Something Rotten, The Addams Family Musical, and Newsies. A student in the program also staged a production of Damn Yankees as part of her Badges project. Also, a variety show each yeah features a vast array of student skills and interests, including music, drama, comedy, and much more.

Robotics

FIRST Robotics Team 4019 was founded in 2011. Also known as Mechanical Paradise, this FIRST team competes primarily in FIRST Robotics Competitions in Southern California.

FIRST is an annual engineering competition that challenges teams of high school students to fully design, build and program a robot that performs very specialized tasks in just six weeks with the aid of professional engineer volunteer mentors.

FIRST prides itself as being “the varsity sport for the mind” and “the hardest fun you’ll ever have,” and it really is. The students have an unbelievable opportunity to develop real world engineering skills in a fast-paced and hands-on environment that challenges them to build community through cooperation and collaboration.

Clubs & Organizations

Students take an active role in forming and organizing clubs in which to participate during the school year. Creating and running interest-based clubs allows high school students to explore their passions, build leadership skills, and take ownership of their learning outside the classroom. These clubs foster a sense of belonging and encourage collaboration, empowering students to develop valuable interpersonal skills and pursue interests that can shape their future academic and career paths.

Current offerings include but are not limited to: Magic: The Gathering Club; Inspiration Club; Arts & Crafts Club; Bridges Newspaper Club; Chess Club; Gardening Haven Group; Liminal Spaces Club; and D&D Club.

National Honor Society

The first Bridges NHS chapter launched in 2023. The National Honor Society at Bridges provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills, engage in meaningful community service, and demonstrate commitment to academic excellence. NHS members organize and participate in a variety of service projects, benefiting both our school and the wider community. Staff members involved in NHS serve as mentors and advisors, guiding students in their personal and academic growth while helping them manage their responsibilities. Through NHS, students gain valuable experience in teamwork, accountability, and making a positive impact, preparing them for future academic and career challenges.
